EkoBuy Bluetooth Dongle Review

EkoBuy Bluetooth Dongle Review

This is another short review from me today. This is arguably one of the most reliable devices when it come to providing your PC with Bluetooth. Many people buy things like this because they think it will improve their existing Bluetooth. Only buy this, if you have built your own PC, and your Motherboard doesn’t come with Bluetooth enabled automatically.

Summary

The packaging is very basic, and at £5, you shouldn’t expect there to be amazing packaging. There is a CD, which I don’t know why EkoBuy have decided to include, but it’s there. Setup was simple, it took a few minutes to install the necessary drivers, and to restart the PC. Then, just like that, I can go into settings, and there is a Bluetooth window, so I can connect to any Bluetooth device I want.

Testing

Testing this device was reasonably simple, all I had to do was plug it in, and see if it works from certain ranges. All my Bluetooth devices pair with it perfectly well, including my gaming headset, which is fantastic. In all honesty, this is what a dongle should really be like, with no fuss in regards to installation. The range is stated to be 50M in open space, which really is an empty claim. Unless you use your laptop that has no Bluetooth outside, I really don’t see the point of this claim.

The dongle is Bluetooth 4.0, so the range won’t be as good as the latest 4.1 standard. However, when I am using my PC, I have found no need to be more than 20ft from my PC. The range does start to cut off when I start to go downstairs, but that’s very acceptable in my case.

Availability And Specs

This dongle is readily available for around £5, and I had to find an alternative for $7, as this dongle is not available in the USA.

Amazon (UK): http://amzn.to/2kjdcyN
Amazon (US Alternative): http://amzn.to/2kEB7d4

Specs are as follows

  • Bluetooth version: 4.0 with EDR – data transfer rate up to 3Mbps
  • ISM Band: 2.402-2.480GHz
  • Operation range: Class II, up to 50 meters in open space with no interface.

Final Verdict

To conclude this short review, this dongle does what it needs to do, it is affordable, and has caused no connection issues. Buy this only if your device that you want it for has no Bluetooth.
