Chromecast 2.0

Chromecast 2.0

When you think about it, it’s not really surprising that media streaming devices like the Chromecast 2 simply plug into your TV have been such a runaway success – what is not to like? With this device, I can now stream Spotify, Netflix, and the like all on to my TV seamlessly.

Google’s 2nd iteration of the Chromecast has been well worth the wait, and if you haven’t got a smart TV, I would highly recommend purchasing this product. The design has been completely changed, and for the better. The product is not a ‘stick’ that is obtrusive. In other words, the Chromecast is plugged into your TV, and then has a flat cable leading to the circular product itself. This was just what I needed, since the regular Chromecast wouldn’t fit into the back of my TV.

The old Chromecast could be considered ugly, as it plugged into the back of your HDTV like a memory stick. This eliminated those with a wall facing HDMI, so that’s a huge change, which is why “Design” was a heading. The dongle now folds into itself, so it can essentially fit into any wall mounted TV. There are also now different colours available now, but I don’t know why you would care since you wouldn’t see it in the first place. On the box, the images are more clean, and has the newly designed Chromecast at the front.
On the sides of the box, some new specifications are displayed.fullsizerender-1

Availability and Specifications

Almost one year into its release and sales don’t seem to be slowing down. They can be purchased for £30/$35 but Amazon just chose not to sell it. Whatever the reason Amazon doesn’t have it on there I think is a bad business move. You can buy them here:

Here are the specifications for the product:

  • dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz support
  • 802.11ac support
  • triple-adaptive antenna
  • HDMI connectivity
  • Fast Play and gaming support
  • Colors: Black, Coral and Lemonade

Final Verdict

The Chromecast is a definite must have for those desiring a Smart TV experience for a really, really affordable price. Would highly recommend. Overall, Google have done a great job in creating the ultimate streaming dongle.
